Choose a web agency that proactively monitors your logs
At outer/edge we are always looking into ways we can improve our customer’s websites and our internal processes. Our team recently had a thought “What if we could spot issues before they are even reported to us?”. After beavering away, we are very excited to be rolling out Open Telemetry logging free of charge as an added benefit to all of our Magento Support Plan customers.
This tool allows us to remotely collect up-to-the-minute data showing detailed logs of backend site errors as soon as they occur - with instant alerting for our team rolling out in the coming months.
Just like in health, early detection is key
We know it's almost impossible to check every scenario on every website and sadly bugs will happen. Here is a worrying statistic we read recently about how likely a customer is to let a company know of an issue:
Recent studies show 96% of customers will not complain, and 91% will simply never return.
It is highly likely that before a problem has been reported, many customers have faced the same problem. User experience is critical in the highly competitive world of e-commerce and you could lose a customer for life over a bad one. Having an agency that proactively monitors your error logs is vital in preventing these experiences.
The devil is in the detail
Our new logging system gives us greater detail and reduced clutter than the standard Magento logs. This allows us to be efficient and almost surgical in finding and fixing these pesky bugs. We can detect both repeated errors and any individual occurrences.
Soon we will also send alerts to our internal systems of any bugs the moment they are first detected so we can offer a rapid response 💨. We are also considering using the data to automatically raise tasks in customer backlogs depending on the severity of the error. Finally, we hope to bring front-end error logging to our platform in the future too.
At outer/edge we are invested in making our customer's sites as reliable and user-friendly as possible. We don’t like to sit on our hands and wait for customers to bring us issues. We actively get into the trenches to find areas to make improvements and this new logging system is the latest tool in our arsenal.
